The United Nations Observation Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) was initially established to monitor compliance with the ceasefire between the Georgian government and the Abkhaz authorities in Georgia. Its mandate was later extended to include evaluation of the local police forces in the regions bordering Abkhazia. The International police forces have developed training and reform projects in the areas of personnel and of police equipment.
